Deliberative appraisal of options

For participatory decision appraisal, informal methods may be take a more deliberative form. For example, consensus-based decision making can facilitate discourse amongst a group to increase familiarity and shared understanding of the decision. This may increase a sense of shared control amongst different actors, and lead to more effective adaptation (Minkler and Wallerstein, 2011). There is an equally large range of methods, which address collaborative goal setting, which cannot be addressed by formal methods. These are described in in the Toolbox section on Informal decision-making.
