Dr Chiara Sophia Weituschat

Postdoctoral Researcher
Weituschat

Part of the working group on Adaptation in Agricultural Systems, Sophia's research focuses on socio-economic and value chain perspectives of adaptation strategies for (smallholder) farmers. With a background in development economics and value chain management, she applies both qualitative and quantitative social-scientific methods using farm household and value chain data. The objective of her research is to identify farm and value chain level barriers to the implementation of adaptation strategies to climate change in agri-food systems, focussing specifically on value chain organisation and its relation to cognitive and socio-cultural barriers. Further, she analyses the impacts of these adaptation strategies on issues such as food security and household income.
