Sabine Mathesius is a postdoctoral researcher at PIK, working on various ocean topics in the Planetary Boundary Science project. She obtained a doctoral degree in Biological Oceanography at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, where she investigated ocean acidification scenarios and the role of vertical mixing in the marine carbon cycle. In Planetary Boundary Science she works on advancing the scientific foundation and representation of the ocean in the Planetary Boundary Framework, aiming to integrate and assess control variables that address key ocean aspects like marine biosphere integrity, carbon uptake efficiency, and ocean heat storage.
