Philipp Verpoort has been a postdoctoral researcher in Research Department 3 (Transition Pathways) since May 2021, where he is a member of Dr Falko Ueckerdt's team on Hydrogen, Electrification, and Industry Transformation. His current main research focus is trade with hydrogen and energy-intensive basic materials (steel, chemicals).

He is a physicist by training and previously completed a PhD in the Theory of Condensed Matter Group at the University of Cambridge, where he conducted research in solid-state physics, statistical physics, materials research, and artificial intelligence.
