Jakob Napiontek studied physics and industrial ecology in Berlin, Santa Barbara, Leiden and Delft. He joined the FutureLab Social Metabolism & Impacts in 2021, first as a research assistant to Prof. Dr. Helga Weisz and since December 2023 as a PhD student. His research focuses on high-resolution spatial and socio-economic modeling of climate change mitigation for Germany and Europe. In his master thesis, he modeled the German housing stock and investigated construction demand and emissions in Germany until 2050. His PhD thesis is supervised by Prof. Dr. Helga Weisz, Head of the FutureLab Social Metabolism and Impacts, and Prof. Dr. Felix Creutzig, Head of the Working Group Land Use, Infrastructures and Transport at the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change and Chair of Sustainability Economics at the Technische Universität Berlin, and , extends this work beyond Germany to all of Europe and supports German cities in implementing the results.. Jakob Napiontek is a board member of the Student Section of the International Society for Industrial Ecology.
