Gaurav is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Sustainable Carbon Management group at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and a Guest Research Scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis. His research centers on applying normative principles to develop sustainable carbon dioxide removal deployment strategies.
Previously, he worked in a number of roles at Climate Analytics, a Berlin-based institute bridging science and policy. He defended his Ph.D. at the Geography Department of Humboldt University, Berlin, in December 2024, holds a Master of Public Policy from the Hertie School of Governance, Berlin, and a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering (specialization in Renewable Energy) from the Vellore Institute of Technology, India.
Gaurav's research has been published in journals including Nature, Nature Communications, and Environmental Research Letters. He is passionate about science-policy communication and has written guest articles for Carbon Brief and The Conversation. He was a contributing author to the UNEP Emission Gap Reports in 2022 and 2023, and to the State of CDR report in 2024.
