Andreas Morr is a mathematician and physicist working on the European research project „Tipping Points in the Earth System“ (TiPES) within PIK and in collaboration with the ESM group at TU Munich.
Coming from a background of stochastic analysis and modelling, I am applying continuous-time approaches to dynamical systems and noise to derive statistical methods for discrete time series data. For certain earth subsystems in which low complexity model assumptions are justified, state stability and the possibility of approaching tipping points may be estimated by such statistical methods. In my past work, I have largely worked on vegetation subsystems and their stable states in consideration of vegetation-precipitation feedbacks.
