Dr Friederike Lenel

Senior Scientist
Lenel

Friederike Lenel is an applied development and behavioral economist. She studies how uncertainty affects economic decision making. At the working group "Adaptation in Agricultural Systems" at PIK, she is studying factors that influence farmers' decision making and their climate change adaptation behavior. She is responsible for the impact evaluation of small grant projects that aim to transform adaptation practices as part of the PACO project ("Implementing regional and national adaptation priorities in West and Central Africa") funded by the BMU.

After her PhD at the DIW Berlin and the Humboldt University, Friederike was as a post-doctoral researcher at the DFG funded research training group Globalization and Development at the University of Göttingen and a visiting scholar at the King Center on Global Development at Stanford University. Since 2022 she is a Dorothea-Schlözer fellow at the Chair of International Economic Policy at the University of Göttingen where she continues working part time.

Friederike is an applied economist working on the intersection of development and behavioral economics. In particular, she is interested in the role of uncertainty for information seeking and economic decision-making as well as the interplay of formal and informal institutions. Most of her research so far was based on network analysis as well as on experiments (field and lab-in-the field) she ran to better understand mechanisms that drive behavior and test tools that can support decision making.
