Max Bechthold

Doctoral Researcher
Bechthold

Max is a PhD student in the Earth Resilience Science Unit (ERSU), working on developing and quantifying metrics for World-Earth system resilience, using a pathwise and information-based approach. He is part of the Whole Earth System Analysis Theme.

Following a master's thesis in physics with the title "Dynamics of Behavioural Contagion in a Stylised Social-Ecological Multilayer Network Model of Social Norms and Groups" under the supervision of Jonathan Donges started in 2022, Max has been working at PIK since November 2023 in the ERA future lab and the copan collaboration. From April 2024 until September 2024 he worked as a project researcher in the context of a modeling framework for World-Earth system resilience.

His research interests include: complex systems, non-linear dynamics, multilayer networks, agent based models, social-ecological systems, feedback loops, social norms, social groups and social tipping, (world-) earth system resilience and tipping.
