Bennet Weiss is a doctoral researcher in the Energy Transition Lab of PIK’s Research Department 3: Transformation Pathways. Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Gunnar Luderer and Dr. Falko Ueckerdt, his research focuses on climate mitigation strategies in the basic materials sector, with a particular emphasis on cement. He examines the interaction between conventional mitigation approaches, such as carbon capture and storage (CCS) and fuel switching, and circular economy strategies, including light-weighting, increased use intensity, and material substitution.
Bennet holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Technical University of Darmstadt and a Master’s degree in Climate Physics from Utrecht University. For his Master’s thesis at the Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research Utrecht (IMAU), he developed and applied a coupled conceptual model to better understand the interaction between the El Niño–Southern Oscillation and global mean surface temperature (GMST).
