Michael Sureth

Michael Sureth is a PhD candidate in the FutureLab CERES: Political Economy for Inclusive Wealth Governance & Sustainability. His research focus is on the integration of planetary boundaries into welfare economic analysis. He uses analytical and integrated assessment modelling as well as quantitative methods, to analyze econonmic implications of environmental problems captured within the planetary boundaries framework.

Currently, he works on building a theoretical and conceptual basis for public economic analyses of the scarcities and uncertainties imposed onto economies by the planetary boundaries. Moreover, he analyzes the effects of incorporating further planetary boundaries – besides climate change – into integrated assessment models. Doing so, he tries to identify policy instruments that simoultaneously address multiple planetary boundaries by taking into account arising synergies and trade-offs.
