Nele Gloy

Doctoral Researcher
Gloy

Nele is a member of the working group “Adaptation in Agricultural Systems”, where she supports the DecLaRe project as a doctoral researcher. In her research, Nele focuses on biophysical modelling approaches to assess the potential of agroforestry systems to enhance food security in Western and Central Africa.

Nele joined PIK in 2021 as a project coordinator and research analyst. She coordinated various projects, and conducted research on the impacts of climate change in agriculture and evaluates adaptation strategies for smallholder farmers in especially Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2023, Nele started her PhD on the topic of agroforestry and its potential to improve food security in Western Africa.

Before joining PIK, she worked for two years as an adviser for rural development at the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) in Tunisia.

Nele studied Agricultural Sciences (B.Sc. + M.Sc.)  with specialization in Environmental Sciences at Kiel University (Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel), ENSAT (France), and INRGREF (Tunisia). Her master thesis focused on the effect of treated wastewater irrigation on soil and groundwater characteristics (in particular with regard to boron content) in Tunisia.
