Dr. Janin Schaffer works as Science Coordinator in the institute's directors team since October 2021.
Janin studied Climate Physics at the GEOMAR, Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel. From 2014-2021, she worked as a physical oceanographer at the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, receiving her doctorate in the field of Physical Oceanography in 2018. During her PhD and Postdoc, her research focus was on ocean-glacier interaction in Northeast Greenland. She co-organized and joined several research expeditions to Greenland, and coordinated the collaborative research project GROCE (Greenland Ice Sheet/Ocean Interaction) funded by the BMBF.
