This project aims to develop a rigorous design proposal for a power market dominated by re-newable energies based on a fundamental economic analysis of the challenges . This will mainly be done using a “greenfield” approach, which abstracts from current regulatory regimes and market conditions in order to define a long-term solution from which to work backwards in terms of reforms. Special attention is given to the role and design of instruments for innovation and greenhouse gas mitigation, especially the carbon price, which may play an important role in the transition to a 100% RES power market. Research in this project combines the two academic fields “market design” and “power market economics”.
