Measuring emission reduction and adaptation potentials in agricultural and food systems: what works at which scale?

This research project addresses the urgent need for sustainable transformation in agricultural and food systems, which are under increasing pressure from the climate crisis, economic instability, and rising inequality. Despite the existence of strategies aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement, progress remains limited due to outdated, unimplemented plans and a lack of scientific integration. The objective of this project aims to disentangle the complexities of achieving both climate adaptation and mitigation in these systems. By identifying and assessing methods and indicators for tracking progress, it seeks to provide actionable insights for funders, implementers, and partner countries in the context of development cooperation. These efforts are essential to safeguarding global food security, supporting sustainable development, and building climate resilience.
