The purpose of the grant is to get the Parties collaborate in such a manner that each may benefit from each other’s expertise, knowledge, and resources to enhance the research of both Parties to the degree that this meets their respective needs and priorities – following the principles of independency, objectivity, and non-politicization of expert evaluations – with the aim of improving coupled land-use and energy modelling through improvements to MAgPIE and the MESSAGEix integrated assessment framework.
In the particular areas of expertise as represented by IIASA and PIK, both Parties are guided by the common goal to develop closer collaboration; such collaboration will be directed towards the following areas: Expanding and linking the land-use model MAgPIE to the MESSAGEix framework to create a new integrated assessment framework better representing the range of carbon removal options.
