"The work at this institute combines the broad range of research and teaching related to ecological, economic and social sustainability that has already characterised the university for years. I am looking forward to contributing to this new focus and developing it in diverse collaborations with the researchers at the University of Kassel", says Popp.
Alexander Popp also continues to lead the Land Use Management research group at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and coordinates the development of the global land use model 'Model of Agricultural Production and its Impacts on the Environment' (MAgPIE).
Land use, especially agriculture, plays a key role in sustainable development. Prof. Popp's focus is to analyse these interactions and develop solutions - with a focus on land-based climate protection measures.
Alexander Popp contributes to several reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
