Long Night of Science: Many visitors despite of thunderstorms

From forests under climate change, heat waves and summer storms to Antarctic Ice or the compensation of climate damages – the latest findings of climate science were explained in various presentations by PIK experts. The PIK internet platforms zeean.net and klimafolgenonline.com were showcased as well as several visualizations und simulations, for example on the impacts of climate change on the vegetation of the earth, “flying rivers” in the Amazonian rainforest or the interdependence of warming oceans and ice melting in Antarctica.

Juniors had the chance to go on a Polar expedition with PIK experts, experiment with ocean circulation or play the card game “Fette Ernte” of the GemüseAckerdemie. Weather observations and extreme weather events were at the center of tours through the “weather kitchen”, PIK´s education and information center.
