The G7 summit focused in particular on demonstrating solidarity with Ukraine and additional concrete steps to procide Ukraine with financial support.  Beside other topics such as the global coronavirus pandemic, climate action was another central focus of the summit.

Edenhofer, director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons  and Climate Change (MCC) as well as Professor at Technische Universität Berlin, spoke at the symposium that kicked off the G7 summit. With his lecture he gave an introduction to the session "The economic challenges of the transition to net-zero." The focus was on close coordination of climate action policies, in particular CO2 pricing within the framework of an international climate club, as the German government is striving for. Edenhofer was joined by Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, the Economic Counsellor and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund.
