Several PIK scientists joined the 28th General Assembly of The International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) which took place in mid July in Berlin. Topics and discussions involved (amongst others) dynamics of ice sheets, the ocean and the atmosphere and their interaction, glacial isostatic adjustment, tipping points and the use of machine learning techniques in cryospheric research. Ice dynamics group lead Ricarda Winkelmann gave a Union Lecture on the tipping points of Greenland and Antarctica which was attended by many of the conference participants across the various geophysical disciplines.
