The GIZ study tour, accompanied by GIZ´s Caroline Milow, Mukhabbat Kamalova and Paluanivaz Pirnivazov made a stop in Potsdam in order to visit both PIK and GFZ on 30th of June, 2022. Participants arrived at 9 am and were greeted at the gate by GVCA project manager Iulii Didovets and Krylova Viktoriya (DKU). After a walk along the historic Telegrafenberg Campus, the study group arrived at PIK Michelson building and was led up to the Big Cupola. Participants from our partner countries were given an introduction to the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research: its mission, history as well as current research.
This was followed by an overview of the Green Vision Central Asia Project at PIK, including project structure, topics as they relate to the different work packages, involved personnel and finally our ongoing capacity-building activities in the region.
Active participation was encouraged and well received by participants. The group was then picked up by GFZ in order to get further input from their side. Both input sessions were then followed by a joint lunch, which served as a great networking opportunity between the institutes and the study tour participants. After lunch, colleagues from GFZ and PIK organized a small walk tour across the campus. Follow-up communication with several of the participants is scheduled for the next weeks in order to foster further cooperation with their respective institutions.
