Every year the German Alliance for Global Health Research (GLOHRA) organizes its annual symposium around topics of Global Health and invites members and stakeholders from the field. National and international actors come together to exchange and share knowledge on Global Health research and policy. Apart from the General Assembly of its members, the presentation and exchange of GLOHRA research projects is a central component of the symposium.
During the panel discussion and a poster presentation, Dr. Wendt shared insights into the Safe Water – Advances in Purification Options (SWAPNO) project which started in May 2022. The SWAPNO project works in areas in Bangladesh with high arsenic contamination, providing households with a low-cost, user-friendly and sustainable filtration system to remove both arsenic and microbial contamination from drinking water. Furthermore, households receive training and support on hand washing and other hygiene practices including water storage. The aim is to reduce contamination of drinking water and its adverse health impacts for households in rural Bangladesh.
