14/02/2020 - Sara Minoli successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "Managing phenology for agronomic adaptation of global cropping systems to climate change" at the Humboldt University of Berlin.
With an agro-ecological modelling approach, Sara’s thesis advances knowledge on opportunities for adapting world-wide relevant grain crops to climate change. A novel modeling approach is proposed to compute locally-adapted growing periods that can project farmers’ agronomic management changes under future climate scenarios. It is shown that adjustments in cultivar selection and sowing dates can substantially alleviate negative impact due to increasing temperatures, as well as enhance the positive effects due to increased atmospheric CO2 concentrations. The thesis includes two publications in Global and Planetary Change and in Earth’s Future.
