On September 25th 2023, Project Lead Fanny Thornton co-hosted a one-day expert dialogue on normative developments concerning climate-linked human migration and displacement at the Bosch Foundation, Berlin.
Climatic change affects millions of people worldwide. Increasingly, some have no choice but to leave, and norms concerning their protection and assistance are struggling to keep apace. The expert dialogue sought to propel norm development, not least with respect to Germany's and the EU's obligation. A regional focus of the event was East Africa, where B-EPICC has also been active for years in work on climate-linked migration.
The expert dialogue was hosted in partnership with the United Nation's Refugee Organisation - UNHCR, the German Institute for Human Rights, as well as other colleagues from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.
