description:
Any uncontrolled fire in a wooded area, not being used as tool in forest fire protection or management in accordance with an authorized plan, is called forest fire. Ignited by natural causes, for example lightning strikes, they are common phenomena of natural seasonal cycles of growth, decay and combustion. Temperature rise may lead to reduction of water stock and soil moisture through higher evaporation rates. Thus, the frequency of fires (number of fires per unit of time) is expected to increase with human-induced climate change. Especially where precipitation remains the same or is reduced, forest fires will occur more often.
