The Borlaug Dialogue Symposium is considered to be the world-wide leading conference on global agriculture and agricultural research. Experts from 65 countries will discuss topics like biotechnology, sustainability and climate volatility among which are prominent guests like the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Icelandic President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson. Hermann Lotze-Campen from PIK will hold a lecture in the panel on the challenges of increasing climate variability entitled “Climate Volatility and Building Resilience”. More than 1500 participants have already registered for this year’s symposium.
Within the framework of the symposium, the World Food Prize Laureate Award 2013 will be awarded. This year´s award will go to three scientists who decisively contributed to the development and application of genetic engineering in agriculture: Dr. Marc Van Montagu, Dr. Mary Dell-Chilton and Dr. Robert Fraley. The prize is named after Norman E. Borlaug who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970 for his work on improving global nutrition.
