Stefan Rahmstorf honoured with Alfred Wegener medal

04/17/2024 - Stefan Rahmstorf, co-head of the research department on Earth System Analysis of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), receives the renowned Alfred Wegener Medal & Honorary Membership by the European Geosciences Union (EGU).

During the EGU General Assembly from 14-19 April 2024 in Vienna, 52 recipients will be handed over this year's medals and awards of the Union - the Division Medals and the Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Awards. These personalities will be honoured for their important contributions to the Earth, Planetary and Space sciences.

The EGU is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the Earth, planetary, and space sciences for the benefit of humanity, worldwide. It was established in September 2002 as a merger of the European Geophysical Society (EGS) and the European Union of Geosciences (EUG), and has headquarters in Munich, Germany. The Alfred Wegener Medal & Honorary Membership has been awarded since 1983 to scientists from all over the world in honor of German meteorologist and pioneer of polar sciences Alfred Wegener.
