AgMIP is a major international project assessing the state of global agricultural modeling as well as climate impacts on the agricultural sector to substantially improve the characterization of world food security due to climate change and to enhance adaptation capacity in both developing and developed countries. Researchers of AgMIP showed for instance that without efficient emission reductions, elevated temperatures will lead to severe harvest losses in the US for wheat, soybean and especially for maize at the end of our century. The members of the Executive Committee are internationally recognized leaders for their sustained scientific and technical contributions to agricultural sciences. As the Executive Committee, they will advance the rigor and impact of agricultural systems research undertaken by the AgMIP community.
Besides PIK’s Hermann Lotze-Campen, newly appointed committee members are Cynthia Rosenzweig, Senior Research Scientist at NASA-Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) and Adjunct Senior Research Scientist at the Columbia University Earth Institute and a Professor in the Department of Environmental Science at Barnard College, John Antle, Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at Oregon State University, Senthold Asseng, Professor in the Agricultural & Biological Engineering Department at University of Florida, Jerry Hatfield, Agricultural Research Service Laboratory Director of the US Department of Agriculture, and Anthony Whitbread, India Research Program Director of the Innovations Systems in the Drylands (ICRISAT) and a Professor and former Chair of the Crop Production Systems in the Tropics at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen.
