From May 23rd to June 3rd 2023, the renowned Summer School on Ice Sheets and Glaciers in the Climate System was held in Karthaus, a small village in the Italian Alps.
During the 10 days, PhD students Simon Schöll and Lena Nicola were able to gain an in-depth understanding of surface mass balance processes, numerical ice-sheet modelling, ice core dating techniques and other interesting subjects that were covered by the diverse program. Ice Dynamics working group leader Ricarda Winkelmann held lectures and exercises on ice-ocean interactions and tipping points.
With the other 34 students and lecturers, nearby Lazaun rock glacier was visited during an excursion day (see picture).
We thank the organising committee and project funding for making the summer school possible.
