Svenja Schulze, German Federal Environment Minister, had invited to the Agrarian Congress of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety under the title "Schützen.Nutzen.Leben – Gemeinsam für mehr Vielfalt". Numerous high-ranking representatives from politics, science and organizations came together to discuss a future agricultural policy for Europe that is more strongly geared towards achieving nature, environmental and climate protection goals. Among them was Hermann Lotze-Campen, who spoke about "Agriculture in 2030" in the context of biological diversity, climate change and nutrition.
Expert Panel of the Leibniz Research Alliance "Sustainable Food Production and Healthy Nutrition"
At the international conference "Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA)" of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Hermann Lotze-Campen discussed potentials and obstacles of digital technologies for food value chains on a panel of experts. The event was organized by the Leibniz Research Alliance "Sustainable Food Production and Healthy Nutrition" and the OECD. The panel discussed sustainability issues in food production with experts like Reiner Brunsch, speaker of the Leibniz Research Alliance, Sian Thomas from the UK Food Standards Agency, Cornelia Weltzien from the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomics ATB, or Shivani Kannabhiran from the OECD.
Digitalisation opens up new potential for the agricultural and food industry, Lotze-Campen stressed on the panel of the Leibniz Research Association at GFFA. From a social and scientific point of view, however, it is crucial to find solutions "on how digital technologies in agriculture and beyond will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, using resources more efficiently and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations," emphasised Lotze-Campen. The conference, which was attended by some 70 agriculture ministers from all over the world and top representatives of global agribusiness, is one of the highlights of side events of the International Green Week and took place under the theme "Digital agriculture - intelligent solutions for future agriculture"

How gets climate change onto our plates and why more vegetables and less meat on the menu can help to slow dpwn climate change - as part of the Humboldt Children's University, Hermann Lotze-Campen, who is also Professor of Sustainable Land Use and Climate Change at the Humboldt University in Berlin, discussed with young visitors at the International Green Week. The special lecture for primary school children was organized in cooperation with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
