"As civilisation is turning the knobs on the Earth system, a system we know will react strongly; we are launching this scientific initiative to forge new insights into the major feedbacks that will shape pathways of future development, particularly those created by our collective thoughts, behaviours, preferences, insights and decisions," says Professor Wolfgang Lucht, Co-Chair of PIK’s Research Domain Earth System Analysis. With PIK researcher Jonathan Donges already part of the Earth-Doc team, PIK is actively supporting the network. He develops models of socio-ecological dynamics on a planetary scale to study how a safe and just operating space for humanity might be achieved.
