“It’s hard work – but in the end we’ll be able to provide policy makers with the information they need as a basis for choices of energy policies”, says Ottmar Edenhofer, Co-Chair of the Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climage Change (IPCC) and chief-economist at the PIK.
As the world of international climate research is a world of acronyms, this was a meeting of the SRREN CLAs working on the SPM and the TS: the Coordinating Lead Authors of the report checking the Summary for Policy Makers and the Technical Summary. The issues at stake are quite complex. Six chapters of the report will cover specific technologies, ranging from biomass to solar power, and even to the ocean as a source of energy (using for instance wave power plants). Four chapters treat cross-cutting issues such as costs and the integration of renewables into energy systems.
The SPM of the report will be presented to governments for approval during the final plenary session in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from May 5th to 8th. The results will flow into the Fifth Assessment Report of the IPCC, to be published in April 2014.
