Following an invitation by EPICC, Ramakrishna Ramaswamy spent a short research visit at PIK. On the 18th of December, he held a lecture jointly organized by Research Domain Transciplinary Concepts and Methods and EPICC on "Strategies for control and generalized synchronization in coupled systems”. On the December 19 he participated in a workshop organized by EPICC on "Indo-German-African opportunities for building climate capacities". PIK is leading the execution of the East Africa Peru India Climate Capacities (EPICC) project where knowledge transfer activities and research cooperation will provide local partners with the capacities to work with seasonal forecasts and assess current and future climate impacts.
The aim of the joint project by the Indian The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), the German Weather Service (DWD) and PIK is to reduce the gap between climate research and its application in policy, business and societal decisions. It is an opportunity for the partners from Tanzania, Peru and India to advance their expertise particularly regarding agriculture, hydrology and water resources, and migration. Furthermore it provides knowledge about the use of tailored climate information for national needs.
