“Tapping renewable energy sources will be crucial for mitigating dangerous interferences with the climate system,” says Ottmar Edenhofer from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). Edenhofer co-chairs the IPCC Working Group 3 “Mitigation of Climate Change” that is responsible for this Special Report. Working Group 3 will also publish special reports on the integration of regional carbon markets and adaptation and mitigation in mega cities. “The Special Reports supplement the Assessment Reports by the IPCC and provide valuable information for decision-makers in politics, business and society,” says Edenhofer.
A detailed structure of the “Special Report on Renewable Energy Sources”, as proposed to the IPCC, is available on the website of Working Group 3. Three more lead author meetings are supposed to be held until the report will be delivered. The current meeting at the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research started this Monday and ends today.
