After an opening address by the Australian Ambassador to Germany, Lynette Wood, and a short keynote from the Minister, there was a discussion panel with Finkel and Schellnhuber. Finkel stressed that Australia wanted to establish an emissions corridor to limit greenhouse-gas emissions and said he was impressed by the strategic approach Germany had taken in pursuing its energy transition.
Schellnhuber talked about the risks of technological lock-ins and said wise governance was needed in the form of deliberate interventions. As an example, he named the establishment of a feed-in tariff scheme in Germany that helped drive down the cost of solar energy globally. He concluded in saying it would be a golden opportunity for Australia and Germany to join forces to win the battle of innovation.
