Sabine Gabrysch appointed to Advisory Council of the Federal Government

The previous chairpersons Sabine Schlacke (University of Münster) and Karen Pittel (University of Munich, Ifo Institute) as well as Markus Fischer (University of Bern) were reappointed as members of the advisory board. Newly appointed to the Advisory Board were Alexander Bassen (University of Hamburg), Jörg Drewes (TU Munich), Anna-Katharina Hornidge (University of Bonn German Development Institute), Hans-Otto Pörtner (Alfred Wegener Institute, University of Bremen, Co-Chair of IPCC Working Group II), Anke Weidenkaff (Fraunhofer Institute for Material Cycles and Resource Strategy, TU Darmstadt) as well as Sabine Gabrysch, Professor for Climate Change and Health at the Charité Berlin and Co-Head of the Research Department Climate Resilience at PIK.

"I feel very honoured and happy to be able to contribute to this important committee in the future. As a medical doctor, the well-being of people and a healthy planet are close to my heart - for this we need a stable climate," said Gabrysch about her appointment. "A sustainable transformation of the economy and our society offers enormous opportunities for our own health, and I am committed to work towards this. The Corona pandemic in particular has shown how closely everything is connected; it is a wake-up call to reconsider our relationship with nature."

The WBGU is an independent scientific advisory body to the German federal government with the task of providing policy advice on global change, i.e. analyzing global environmental and development problems and their consequences - and developing recommendations for action and research for the federal government.
