The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research which he founded today has become one of the world's most respected institutes in the field of climate research. Furthermore, the Federal President Steinmeier adds: "Already more than 25 years ago, Hans Joachim Schellnhuber pointed out the dangers of man-made global warming and since then he has tirelessly campaigned for the establishment of the two-degree limit, launched numerous initiatives on climate change and repeatedly set new impulses. Also as an advisor in national, European and international bodies, he has always pointed out the central importance of climate protection for all areas of politics, the need for swift action and our responsibility for future generations. He is a guidance for the post-fossil industrial society who is also concerned with creating prospects for all during the transition."
