
The research team will explore how AI can enhance monitoring, modeling, and decision-making to support sustainability efforts. Their focus will be on using AI to better understand climate and social tipping points, improve predictions of extreme weather impacts, and accelerate global scientific efforts, such as the Planetary Health Check.
At the first workshop in Stockholm, researchers from various disciplines discussed the opportunities and challenges of using AI for scientific analysis, including ethical considerations and energy use. While AI holds immense potential to support a low-carbon, sustainable future, its rapid development must be approached responsibly to mitigate potential risks.
The initiative, led by Victor Galaz (SRC) and Jonathan Donges (PIK), is part of a broader partnership between SRC and PIK and was launched in January.
