"We visited PIK to learn how to better organize climate information for different types of users," said Alfredo Gomez, Director Natural Resources and Environment at the Government Accountability Office. "Improving technical assistance is one element of GAO's climate-related high risk designation and an important aspect of reducing federal fiscal exposure to changes in the climate." The delegation included two experts on energy and environmental issues of the US Embassy to Germany.
Daniel Klingenfeld, Head of Director's Staff, discussed PIK's science-policy interface with the US delegation. Jürgen Kropp, Deputy Co-Chair of PIK's Research Domain Climate Impacts and Vulnerabilities, co-founder of the spin-off Climate Media Factory, presented the Global Calculator web platform he helped developing, while visualization expert Thomas Nocke did the same with KlimafolgenOnline, an information tool focusing on Germany. Finally, Anders Levermann, Co-Chair of the Sustainable Solutions Research Domain, talked about opportunities and limitations of adaptation strategies.
